Melatonin is a chemical that occurs naturally in the human body. Its most important function is in establishing the circadian rhythm of the body. This means that through melatonin, the body gets to know when it is day and time to remain awake and agile and when it is nighttime and is time for the body to rest and recharge. The quantity of melatonin in the body remains very low during the daytime and gradually increases as nighttime arrives. As the night goes on your body releases less and less melatonin into your blood stream; this allows for a gradual awakening and helps maintain a steady circadian thythm.

If you are looking to purchase Melatonin in any form (pill, liquid, or cream), we only endorse the following Natrol, Allvia, and Source Naturals products. They are well research, highly rated, and used and approved by us. We’ve research around the web and found that the best prices for these products, by far, are on Amazon. You can find them here:

Melatonin is produced by the pineal gland with help from the SCN of the hypothalamus. These same functions also serve other purposes, such as handling antioxidants, fights against immunity, and warding off autism.

Melatonin does has a few side effects that cannot be overlooked; when you take a hormonal supplement from an external synthesized source there is always the possibility of complications and side effects. First there is the possibility that defects and errors in manufacturing can cause complications and unintended side effects. It’s imperitave to study the ingredient label and ensure that there is very little added to the supplement other than Melatonin and possibly the ingredients used to make the tablet. You should also find out if the company is in good-standing with the Better Business Bureau. This may sound over-the-top, but don’t forget that you are ingesting chemicals into your body and it is always better to be safe than sorry. Many of the links on this site provide solid information on safe and effective sleep remedies.

The most common side effect of melatonin is that the important natural hormones can interfere with user’s overall metabolic system. It can have effects on when you are hungry, how quickly or slowly you digest food, and your overall consumption and digestion. This varies by users and most users will likely experience no side effects associated with melatonin.

Others have reported that they experience a higher likelyhood of headaches and nausea. While these aren’t signficant complications, they are certainly bothersome and if you experience them you should stop taking melatonin and speak with a doctor about it. Along those same lines, some have experienced depression, dizziness and abdomen pain although these do not affect many people.

Some suffer from nightmares after taking melatonin. This can also develop into delusions and hallucinations if the effects are prolonged and very severe; again, common sense goes a long way here. If anything changes in your body after trying melatonin immediately stop usage and speak with a physician.

In general, it is advised that people suffering from hypertension, epilepsy or liver issues should not take melatonin without first speaking with their doctor. Your doctor may recommend that you start with a minimal dosage and then increase your usage only if needed. In you experience melatonin side effects, withdrawal, or addiction symptoms, stop usage immediately and seek professional help.

In addition to being sold in pill form, melatonin is available for purchase as a cream. You’ll find that melatonin sold in cream form is marketed in many different ways. The packaging for melatonin cream may state its use as any of the following:

To help promote a natural circadian rhythm, the body rhythm that controls sleep

To fight jet lag

It’s a great source of anti-oxidants which protect the skin against free radical damage

To reduce the depth and wrinkles

To slow down the effects of aging on the skin

But is any of this true? Lets dig in.

Melatonin is well known in its pill form for its ability to regulate the human body’s sleep cycle and promote healthy sleep and wake times. While not as many people choose to use melatonin cream, it is certainly a viable option for promoting a healthy sleep cycle. The Allvia Melatonin Cream has proven to be very effective in assisting with helping people fall asleep. In the same way the pill form works, the melatonin in the cream regulates the biorhythm of the body and adjusts the human ‘internal clock’, stepping in to signal that it is time for the body and mind to rest.

The question is, why would someone take melatonin cream when they could very easily just take the pill? Well, the added benefit of using melatonin cream is that it has been shown to be very effective in reducing wrinkles and the effects of aging on the skin. In tests conducted by the University of Munster, Germany, topical melatonin was shown to reduce the depth and span wrinkles after only one full month of treatment. During this same period,it was also observed that the skin appeared and felt much smoother to the touch and promoted a ‘youthful glow’ not present before the experiments began.

In another six week clinical trial, if was found that melatonin cream could credibly:

Promoted healing of damaged tissue

Appeared to help prevent skin damage caused during radiation treatment

Melatonin in cream form clearly serves many purposes, and in many ways is superior to the melatonin sold as a pill. We highly recommend Allvia Melatonin Cream because of its effectiveness in both regulating sleep as well as smoothing and improving skin. We’ve found that the best price for it is from Amazon, so we recommend purchasing it from them because they are a reputable online establishment.

I started taking Melatonin about 2 years ago when I realized that I really needed to do something about my sleep problems. I had tried numerous different over-the-counter and prescription to help with my inability to fall asleep, but all of them brought along their own issues and side-effects that left me unsatisfied. Not only did they have unintended consequences, but I also was not interested in ingesting non-natural chemicals on a daily basis.

When I first heard about melatonin, I was excited about its prospects but hesitant to believe all of the great things I had read. I read up as much as I could online, spoke to my doctor, and then headed out to the drug store to pick up a bottle. Here were my requirements for picking out the supplement:

I wanted to purchase the lowest dosage possible. Some doctors and critics suggest that even 3 mg is too much to consume at once, but most thought that 3-5 mg would be a fine melatonin dosage so I bought what I found to have the best review: Natrol Melatonin. I’m glad I did, I really like Natrol and would recommend it to anyone else who is thinking about purchasing melatonin.

I wanted it to have as few additives as possible. The Natrol bottle pictured above was selected because, as I mentioned, it had the absolute best reviews and its ingredients were basically just melatonin and a few other ingredients that keep it in pill form. I didn’t want a bunch of other stuff added in.

I wanted a chemically produced product, not a harvested product. Doctors and research suggest that you could be putting yourself at risk if you purchase naturally harvested melatonin because it could bring along other bacteria with it.

Like I mentioned, the bottle above of Natrol Melatonin is what I ended up purchasing. So, the first night, about 45 minutes before I wanted to fall asleep, I took one 3 mg pill along with a large glass of water. As if by magic, about 45 minutes later, I was definitely ready for bed. I wasn’t ‘knocked out’, but I was certainly tired and didn’t toss and turn trying to fall asleep.

The next morning I awoke refreshed and didn’t have that groggy feeling that some drugs and Nyquil often leave you with. There were no noticeable side effects and I was certainly please with the results.

I have continued to use Melatonin sparingly since and it has absolutely worked great for me. I have not noticed any side effects at all; thats right, its as if I were just falling asleep on my own – nothing else.

I am careful not to use melatonin too often since I don’t want my body to grow accustomed too it and force me to take larger dosages to be effective. Instead, to avoid my body becoming immune to melatonin, I use it sparingly, and only when I know I absolutely need to fall asleep at a certain time.

I highly recommend melatonin to friends and family because it has been so effective for me. It is natural and already occurs in your body, so you don’t feel as if you are doing any damage to your body by introducing new chemicals that don’t already exist. Additionally, the side effects are really non-existent for me, although your experience may differ.

If you do purchase Melatonin, pick up the Natrol Version from Amazon. It is the highest quality, highest rated product out there and the price Amazon sells it at can’t be beat!

You may be asking yourself, “What is melatonin, really?” The answer is pretty simple: melatonin is a hormone that occurs naturally in many living beings. It is naturally found in humans, some animals, and even algae. It is a critical hormone that the body uses to regulate sleeping cycles (circadian rythm). As you click around the many links on this site to learn more about sleep, sleep products, sleep solutions, and other melatonin information, we hope you learn everything you need to solve all of your sleep issues.

Human beings and other animals produce melatonin through the pineal gland, which is located outside the blood-brain barrier. In most the lens and retina also make melatonin.

In addition to a living creature or organism producing melatonin, it can also be biologically produced/grown. This synthetic melatonin is most commonly used in the supplements available for purchase in most health food and drug stores. It is strongly suggested, based on current available research, that ‘harvested’ melatonin (such as that from Algae) be avoided due to other chemicals that may still be living in them. These other chemicals can cause serious side effects and complications.

Artificially synthesized melatonin that is infused into the system via supplements has proven to be a very effective way of increasing the total amount of melatonin present in the body.

The human brain has a temperature regulator called the hypothalamus which contains SCN. The SCN receives information from the retina about how a body is handling the process of day and night and how the circadian rhythm should influence the body. Melatonin is secreted by non-image based information of light pattern.

In many organisms, lymph cells and cells of bone marrow have also been known to produce melatonin. These are the peripheral cells in action.

We have mentioned the ‘circadian rhythm’ numerous times on this site. As you likely know by now the circadian rythm regulates your sleep cycle. How does the body get to know when the time to sleep is and how to adjust for the biological and seasonal internal clocks? Well, the function of melatonin defines the clock. The difference in the amount and span of melatonin production determines when you will feel tired and when you won’t. When your body feels time for you to be awake, very little melatonin will be present in the body; likewise, when your body feels it is time for you to be asleep, your body will increase melatonin production and induce drowsiness.

Seasonal factors also have an effect on sleep cycles. Your body automatically adjusts the circadian rhythm and thus the melatonin production to compensate for the long nights of winter and the short nights of summer.

Maintaining the biological clock is clearly the most important function of the chemical. Its presence falls during daytime and is heightened in production during the evening and well into the night. Then again, as the day approaches, production drastically decreases.

Melatonin helps in the antioxidant related need of the body. Antioxidants reverse free radical damage and also cut out the chances of carcinogens destroying the DNA’s. This prevents cancer to a great degree. Antioxidants are also great means of flushing out body toxins and raising body metabolism. Melatonin production also aids the immunity levels present in the body. These are also known to boost the fight against autism.

Many people have contacted us inquiring about purchasing melatonin in bulk. We’ve purchased bulk melatonin in the past and have thus reviewed the various options on purchasing large amount of melatonin. Below we’ve included what we’ve found and handy links so that you can easily get to what you are looking for.

A product that we have referenced many times on this site is Natrol Melatonin. In our personal case study it was extremely effective in enducing a natural sleepy feeling followed by a restful night of sleep. Amazon also sells bulk shipments of Natrol Melatonin, so we certainly recommend buying this if it is what you are looking for. At the time of this writing a 12 pack of 1MG, 180 capsule packages are sold for $105.34 – this is a discount of 35% over the recommended retail price… a steal of a deal. You can pick it up here from Amazon.

If you are looking to purchase a larger dosage size of melatonin, you should also take a look at ‘Melatonin Extra’. It is also available from Amazon. It is sold as a 12 pack with 60 capsules in each pack. The price fluctuates a bit, but as of this writing it is $237.98. It is a 3mg variety and has a minimal amount of added ingredients, which is a must for us. We hate it when supplements are stuffed with other unwanted ingredients. In this case, they include Vitamin E (d-alpha tocopherol), Melatonin, Ginkgo Leaves (Ginkgo biloba), Eleuthero Root (Eleutherococcus senticosus), Cellulose (plant fiber), magnesium sterate (vegetable), gelatin, and water. These minimal ingredient mean that you are getting what you pay for – mostly Melatonin. If you’re interested in it, pick up the best deal we’ve found here at Amazon.

As always, if you are buying melatonin and plan to use it for the first time, you absolutely must first speak with a doctor. Melatonin may not be recommended if you have certain diseases, illnesses, are using certain prescriptions, or other factors. Only your doctors can tell you if you should or shouldn’t try melatonin – don’t just settle for the various information you read online. Melatonin does have side effects, and for people who overuse it, it can lead to a melatonin overdose. Always consult a doctor and use melatonin carefully and under a physicians watchful eye.

Melatonin is a naturally occurring chemical found in the body. Though it is synthetically produced by many different supplement makers, you can expect the consistency across all (honest) manufacturers to be of a fairly good quality. You can find a ton of information and products by exploring the many links on this site. Melatonin is a hormone generated by the body to set and regulate the time patterns of the circadian rhythm. As a bonus, it is also great for the purpose of fighting against free radical damage to the body which is known to cause cancer. By fighting this damage, your body is helping ward of one of the known causes of cancer.

Explore the links on this site to learn more about sleep solutions and alternative ways for you to get to sleep. We provide links to popular vendors and information so that you never have to toss and turn at night again.

Currently there are no dosage guidelines that have been accepted and adopted across the supplement industry. This does not mean, however, that we can’t get great information on what melatonin dosages are best. We can get information about dosing sizes by reviewing clinical trial data as well as personal experiences with melatonin. The most common doses available at the drug store range from 3 to 5 mg and are intended to be used once per day, right before sleep. Currently there is not a government or federal reccomended dosing size for melatonin so, as a rule of thumb, we suggest starting with the smallest dosage size (after consulting with your doctor) and only increasing after continued consultations with a physician.

Most sleep disorder and insomnia treatments are not intended to be taken on a long term basis, melatonin is no different. It is recommended that you only take it when it is absolutely necessary and that you avoid overusing it as your body will build up an immunity, which forces you to take larger doses for it to remain effective. For many people, a few weeks on melatonin is enough to establish a strong circadian rythm that will hold even after melatonin usage is discontinued.

Melatonin is considered a herbal or natural supplement. As such it does not go through the rigorous testing and trials that FDA performs on perscription drugs. So, you need to be absolutely careful and sure that you trust the manufacturer of the supplement you are taking. Always look for the symbol “USP” as this identies products that have been independently tested and ‘certified’ that the correct ingredients and quantities were used. Again, though, remember that this is not government testing and as such you can only trust it so much.

There are some side effects that are introduced by melatonin usage when we talk of the various supplements that come in the market in a synthesized way. Well, some of these side effects can be nausea and vomiting, dizziness and abdomen pain. The tougher ones may include withdrawal symptoms and depression. Reproduction is also known to suffer owing to its use and also the urge towards sex is diminished.

Most of the melatonin products you see on the shelf at your drug store are synthetically produced in a lab. While it may sound counterintuitive, the synthetic versions are widely regarded as safer than the natural products available. Some of the natural products available are ‘harvested’ from the pineal glands of farm animals such as cows or sheep. The problem with the naturally harvest products is that they can easily and unknowingly contain contaminants that could cause side effects and complications.

Melatonin is a great supplement and we have heard many success stories and very few complaints or issues. You should always talk to your doctor or physician before taking any supplements, medicines or OTC drugs. Please explore the links on this site to learn more about melatonin and other sleep solutions.

Melatonin can affect the level of sugar in the blood. If you have diabetes, check with your healthcare provider before taking the supplement. You may need to monitor your blood sugar more often, and your healthcare provider may need to adjust the dose of your diabetes medications.

There have been reports that melatonin may worsen depression symptoms.
The liver helps to remove melatonin from your body. Therefore, if you have liver disease, your body may not handle the supplement as well as normal.

Melatonin may worsen seizure disorders. However, there is some evidence that it may be helpful for seizures in some situations. If you have a seizure disorder, do not take melatonin without your healthcare provider’s approval.

Melatonin supplements can interact with some medications (see Melatonin Drug Interactions).

It is not known if melatonin is safe for pregnant or breastfeeding women (see Melatonin and Pregnancy and Melatonin and Breastfeeding).

If you decide to use supplements, what you see on the label may not reflect what is in the bottle. For example, some herbal supplements have been found to be contaminated with heavy metals or prescription drugs, and some have been found to contain much more or much less of the featured ingredient than the label states. Therefore, make sure the manufacturer of your melatonin product is trusted and reputable. It is a good sign if a manufacturer abides by the rules of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). It is also a good sign if a product has the United States Pharmacopoeia (USP) seal, which means that it has been independently tested and shown to contain the correct ingredients in the amounts listed on the label. Your pharmacist is a good resource for information about which manufacturers are most reputable

Melatonin sleep is slightly different than falling asleep under normal and natural circumstances because you generally sleep very deeply and and have vivid dreams and nightmares. Melatonin is a hormone that occurs naturally and is used a supplement to treat insomnia and other common sleep disorders. It is also used for many other things, such as jet lag and the occasional ‘I can’t get to sleep’ problem. that is popular in supplements, especially for treating sleep disorders (such as insomnia).

While sleep and jet lag are the main reasons melatonin is used, it also has other ancillary benefits, such as preventing migrane and painful headaches, as a supplement to fight cancer and the onset of cancer and treating alzheimers disease.

Melatonin has proven to be very effective in ‘lulling’ your body to sleep. Melatonin production in your body increases as it gets closer to your bed time, slowly easing your body into sleep rather than ‘knocking you out’. The issues with this, however, is that many people have mastered fighting off the feeling and have become immune to the melatonin that their body produces naturally. Supplementing your natural melatonin production with synthetically produced melatonin can help ease you back into great natural ‘melatonin sleep’.

Melatonin is closely related to another hormone called serotonin, which is a brain chemical that is closely related with the balance, regulation, and treatment of depression. It has been speculated, and currently being researched, that melatonin could have an impact and possibly be a remedy for depresion. This, however, is pure speculation at this point so don’t take melatonin and think you might be treating your depression. At best it will just make you tire, and at worst it could have serious implications on your health.

Things to be aware of if you are going to take melatonin:

Those with diabetes should absolutely consult with their physician or doctor before taking melatonin. Melatonin can affect your blood sugar levels and so it is important to talk with your doctor first about how you plan to use melatonin and the melatonin dosage levels.

We talked about how some people are experimenting with melatonin for treating depression. While some think it may help, many others believe it may actually make things much worse. Like we’ve cautioned before, do not use melatonin if you suffer from depression.

If you have liver issues, such as liver disease, you should consult with your personal doctor. The liver’s function is to filter the blood and by taking melatonin you are adding melatonin to your blood stream, which your liver will then slowly filter out of your blood. If you have liver problems this may cause complications.

If you have seizures, melatonin may make things worse. Do not take melatonin if you have seizures.

If you take other drugs, OTC medicines, or prescriptions, you should talk to your doctor to ensure you won’t have any complications from the combinations of chemicals you’ll be introducing to your body.

Research has not yet difinitely determined if breastfeeding is a safe activity for women whom are consuming melatonin.

Melatonin is a chemical hormone that contains the amino acid tryptophan. It is produced by the pineal glands in the body and its production is aided by SCN of hypothalamus. Melatonin is stretched all across the skin cells and the peripheral cells of bone marrow and lymph also produce it. Melatonin receptors are located in the retina and lens in higher animals. Yes, the lower animals can only produce it through the pineal glands.

If you are looking to purchase Melatonin, we highly suggest the following products (available on Amazon), as they are well research, highly rated, and sold on Amazon at the best prices:

Melatonin helps in maintaining the circadian rhythm or the sleep-wake regulator of the body. Melatonin production is increased in the body during times of night and it reduces as soon as morning descends. This makes the body feel tired and sleep-worthy during night. It’s quite a help against jet lags, insomnia and various sleep disorders.

Having said this, melatonin is believed to bring certain side effects in the human body if it does not suit you. These can be dizziness and fatigue and abdomen cramps and nausea. When melatonin effects in a bigger way, it might induce depression and other withdrawal symptoms. It increases the REM sleep timings and hence it can bring along many narcoleptic disorders like hallucination and delusion.

To avoid the possible perils of melatonin consumption, it is believed that the best strategy is to go low on the count and find out what may be the side effect withstood by the body. If there are no effects as such and sleep gets regulated well then you can opt out for a higher dose. Doses for an average adult with an optimum weight can begin from 3 mg and it can be pushed up to 10 mg in case the want arises.

Melatonin overdose can result in lethargy, extreme fatigue, incoherence, mental and nervous disorientation, speech problems and psychotic thinking among other things. In case of melatonin overdose, the best idea is to go for supportive care. This treats the problem from the root and eradicates it.

Melatonin overdose might result in lowering the blood pressure beneath the threshold levels. This is why it is important to pre-assess the dose for those patients who have high blood pressure. Also, it is important to pre-examine the patients with liver or nerve disorders before administering melatonin.

Melatonin shall be taken only when the companies you buy from adhere to the Better Business Bureau standards and also when you see that they have the right ingredient labels in place. Yes, it is a naturally occurring hormone but its shortage has brought along the various synthesized pharmaceutical products. It is here that the importance of right dosage comes onto the picture.

If melatonin suits you then the correct dosage can answer most of your sleeping worries, and if it is giving you side effects, it is better to keep away from the higher dosage.

Melatonin overdose can also induce poisoning and hence it is always better to pre-read the symptoms and call for the emergency services. These are the people who are most up to date with the treatment styles.

Melatonin is a chemical hormone which occurs in the body and prepares the body against various sleep disorders such as jet lag and insomnia. It is crucial for maintaining the circadian rhythm of the body. This does it by increasing the content as evening descends and coming down in blood percentage by the time it’s dawn again.

Melatonin can be taken in the form of pills, creams, and liquids. The liquids come in a variety of dosages and are extremely easy to swallow. This makes the liquids a very popular choice. Melatonin liquid helps in providing adequate sleeping patterns. In fact, they provide as much as 1 mg of melatonin per serving.

Melatonin liquid is taken prior to bed time and is generally taken as 4 drops, half an hour before the desired time. Melatonin liquid, taken in optimum doses, can create the right balance in the body and thereby bring about a perfect harmony in sleep patterns. What better way to fight sleep issues then. Yes, there can be various side effects of melatonin liquid. For instance, if it does not hit the right chord with you then it can create dizziness, nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, and can even take you to the throes of depression. Such depression as it brings can even tend towards hallucination, delusions and feelings of grandeur. However, these side effects are extremely rare.

Melatonin liquid is different from the pills as they can be taken easily without the problems regarding swallowing of pills. Also, they cater to a simple system which can be better assimilated by the bloodstream. At times, properly synthesized, well-branded melatonin liquids are known to take effect very quickly.

Various brands sell retail versions of melatonin liquid. When purchasing melatonin in liquid form, keep in mind that you only want to purchase products from those who have strong brands, reliable shipping standards, and various quality checks and inspection controls.

We highly recommend purchasing Source Naturals Melatonin Liquid. Source Naturals has the highest rating on Amazon and provides a high quality price. And, if you purchase it from Amazon, you’ll get quick shipping and the best available price on the internet.
